Future Trends: 700 Technological Transformations

According to the Future Today Institute's 2024 report, we are currently experiencing a technological supercycle driven by the convergence of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and interconnected wearable devices. This cycle is expected to have a profound impact on global economics, politics, and social structures. The report outlines nearly 700 technological trends, ranging from the gradual evolution of established technologies to groundbreaking innovations at the forefront of science and technology.

In computing, AI is driving significant changes in computing architectures, including the development of neuromorphic computing and organic intelligence. While quantum computing still faces challenges with noise and errors, there have been notable breakthroughs. Photonic computing and new storage technologies, such as DNA computing, are also showing immense potential. Geopolitical tensions and supply chain issues are reshaping the semiconductor industry. Countries like the U.S. are pushing for chip manufacturing to return domestically, while the RISC-V architecture continues to rise in popularity. The future of personal computing will be smarter and more personalized, with advancements in screenless computing and wearable technologies, alongside a fusion of human-centered and biological computing.

CES: AI Empowerment Takes Center Stage with Innovation Highlights

AI/AR Glasses: One of the key highlights, these glasses integrate AI technology, waveguide technology, and enhanced camera functionalities. Innovations in retinal projection-based display technology have also gained considerable attention.

Automobiles: AI is revolutionizing in-car intelligent applications, focusing on smart driving, cockpit systems, and operating systems. Cross-industry collaboration and strategic partnerships are emerging as key trends. The automotive sector is intensifying efforts in AI-powered smart cockpits, operating systems, and autonomous driving technologies.

PCs: Lenovo executives predict that within the next 3-4 years, all PCs will become AI-powered, with Nvidia set to release desktop AI supercomputers.

Robots: Many domestic and international robot manufacturers showcased their innovations at CES. During the event, Elon Musk set clear targets for mass production, aiming to produce one million robots within three years.

AI Toys and Innovative Concepts: AI-powered toys for children were among the standout innovative products at this year’s CES, with a growing number of AI-assisted companionship products for children gaining attention.

Tesla and Top Group Achieve 500% Growth in Performance

In 2024, Tesla's global electric vehicle sales reached 1.789 million units, solidifying its position as the leader in the pure electric vehicle market. The introduction of new models, including the Model Y and Model Q, in 2025 is expected to further boost sales. Tesla also plans to produce thousands of Optimus humanoid robots by 2025, with a target production volume of 500,000 units by 2027. Tesla’s Shanghai factory has achieved a localization rate of over 95%, and the significant increase in sales has spurred performance growth for key suppliers in the domestic supply chain, such as Top Group and Sanhua Intelligent Control.

Since joining Tesla’s supply chain in 2016, Top Group’s revenue has surged from 3.94 billion RMB to 19.7 billion RMB in 2023, marking a fivefold increase, far outpacing Sanhua’s 2.6-fold growth. Top Group’s competitive advantage lies in its exceptional cost control capabilities. From 2019 to the third quarter of 2024, Top Group's gross profit margin was approximately 20%, lower than Sanhua’s 28%, but its net profit margin has matched or exceeded Sanhua’s, thanks to significant reductions in management and sales expenses.

Top Group’s robotics division is expanding into electric drive systems, linear actuators, and robotic arms, with plans to strengthen collaboration with Tesla’s actuator business. Humanoid robots could become their second-largest growth segment in the future.

Domestic Humanoid Robot Companies Begin "Small-Scale" Profits

2025 is expected to be the "Year of Mass Production" or "Year of Commercialization" for humanoid robots, shifting the focus from technology demonstrations to real-world applications. Leju Robotics, for example, delivered its 100th full-sized humanoid robot, "Kuafu," to BAIC Off-road Vehicle Company on January 17, marking the transition from mass production to large-scale delivery. "Kuafu" was developed in collaboration with Huawei, based on the Pangu embodied intelligence model, and features multimodal interaction capabilities. These robots have already been delivered across three major sectors: industrial manufacturing, business services, and research education.

In 2025, humanoid robot companies will ramp up production and delivery. Leju’s first production line in Suzhou is expected to produce 200 units annually. Other domestic humanoid robot companies, including Zhiyuan Robotics, UBTech, and Yushu Robotics, are also accelerating their mass production efforts.
